Since January 2006, the city of Montréal-Est has now became an individual city, after being merged with the large city of Montréal in January 2002. If this city, located in the northeastern part of the Montréal Island, only has 3,500 inhabitants, it is mainly because of the high number of oil refineries and factories established on the territory. In fact, since the beginning of the 1900s, three important oil refineries and five petrochemical industries established here. Besides, it’s here that we can find the oldest oil refineries in Canada.
