Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site of Canada Open from mid-May to mid-October
In Memory of the New France Immigrants After a short cruise on the St. Lawrence River, you will land on Grosse-Île where you can visit this island where millions of immigrants stopped over in their long journey to America between 1832 and 1937. This is where the new comers were put in quarantine to avoid the epidemics to spread through the colony. A guide will take you to the village, the hospitals, the disinfection building and the cemetery where were buried those who died on the island.
