Before the merging of Cap-de-la-Madeleine with the new large city of Trois-Rivières in&nbsp 2002, Cap-de-la-Madeleine was home to more than&nbsp 30,000&nbsp inhabitants. Just like many other cities in the Mauricie region, Cap-de-la-Madeleine draw a large number of settlers in the region, all interested in the agriculture land. Throughout the years, the large number of trees has contributed to the economic boom of the municipality since they allowed many pulp and paper and textile companies to establish. What really contributed to make Cap-de-la-Madeleine known, however, is without a doubt the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap. The construction of this site started in&nbsp 1714, and since then, this pilgrimage site has been welcoming millions of visitors each year. Since&nbsp 1974, you can also visit a basilica to see its beautiful stained-glass windows.
