You are here in the cradle of Quebec's vacation, where river and mountains meet. The cities and villages reveal their love for art and culture, while the hinterland lets you explore its wild region.

Region Charlevoix

A Region Made of Rivers and Mountains

The Charlevoix region has been inspiring artists and visitors for many years now with the beauty of its breathtaking landscapes. The St. Lawrence River slowly runs by the coast while mountains scatter the land with their green summits. Charlevoix is also one of the largest inhabited craters of the world, since the region was hit by a meteorite more than 350 million years ago, which gave the region its shape.

At the beginning of the colony, some companies came in the Charlevoix region to extract natural resources, especially wood. However, tourism quickly became the main industry of the region. For more than 200 years now, people come to this charming region to discover or rediscover the spectacular landscapes and exciting attractions. Nowadays, artists, poets and writers take advantage of the surrounding scenery to create outstanding works of art. Visitors can admire them in the different art galleries or in the museums of the region.

The Charlevoix region is divided in six areas, each bearing very different characteristics and offering captivating attractions. Each one offers activities for all tastes: museums, outdoor activities, health centres and cruises. Along the roads meandering in the region, numerous farms and economuseums allow visitors to sample some well-known regional products.

At the end of the day, numerous bed & breakfasts and inns welcome visitors who wish to spend a little more time in this enchanting region. If you want to feel like a prince or a princess, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu will certainly help you to do so. Nestled between the mountains and the St. Lawrence River, this hotel unveils its terrace offering a breathtaking view. You can also take advantage of your stay in the region to visit the Casino de Charlevoix, opposite the Manoir Richelieu. Despite its small size, this casino presents a nice, muffled atmosphere.

During your next visit in the region, make sure you drive along the panoramic road. It will certainly make your drive a little longer, but the landscape that will unroll before your eyes is worth the detour. On your right – or on your left, depending the way you are going –, you will have the chance to admire the River stretching as far as the eye can see. Take advantage of the parking lots to stop along the road, take a few pictures or to simply breathe in the fresh air from the open sea.
