Welcome to this green land where a lake and a river are constantly fighting over which one has contributed the region’s fame. The splendour of Lake Saint-Jean reigns over the region, and is, by the way, the largest inhabited lake of the province. The Saguenay Fjord astonishes by the untamed beauty of its cliffs and forests that overlook the water rushing down below.

The Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean region is a region of nature. The lake, rivers, forests and mountains invite visitors to come breathe some fresh air. Because of the presence of such a generous nature, three national parks have chosen to establish in the region, for the joy of outdoor sports lovers. Water sports are also very popular, and the beaches are absolutely beautiful.

The Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean region was once a territory used by many Native communities for hunting and fishing. These days, several historic sites tell you about the way of life of these communities. The industrial age was very important to the region, with the establishment of numerous wood and aluminium transformation factories. You can learn more about them, about the development of these industries throughout the years, and you can even visit some of these factories.

Culture and history enthusiasts will like the museums and interpretation centres of the region. Inhabitants will welcome you in those sites and will be glad to tell you about their history.
